Electric Vehicle Powertrain Systems

The University of Windsor Continuing Education has introduced a new course in electric vehicle (EV) powertrain systems. This course will provide a comprehensive overview of the key technologies and systems that drive EVs. It will cover essential topics such as, EV powertrain architecture, battery energy storage, electric motor technologies and power electronic converts. This course will allow students to gain a deep understanding of how these components work together to create the powertrain of an EV. The course will also explore the latest advancements and trends in EV technology, making it an excellent choice for anyone interested in the rapidly evolving field of electric transportation. 

This course will be divided into two parts: EV Powertrain Systems Part I: Modules 1 Thursdays, Jan. 11- Feb. 15, 2024 and EV Powertrain Systems Part II: Thursdays, Apr. 4 – May 9 ,2024. LEARN MORE

Windsor firm partners to build ‘extreme-fast charging’ e-vehicle batteries

Flex-N-Gate and StoreDot, a company specializing in ‘extreme-fast charging’ batteries, have unveiled a collaborative effort that will utilize Windsor’s Flex-Ion Battery and Innovation Center to commence the production of cells capable of rapidly recharging their capacity within minutes.
 
Samples of StoreDot’s 100in5 battery cells will begin production next year at Flex-lon’s lithium-ion cell pilot factory while working with local automotive OEMs to produce cells with specified performance and formats. This collaboration is expected to have a considerable impact on the Windsor-Essex economy, as it aligns with the region’s ambition to become a hub for green technology and EV manufacturing. Ontario building more electric vehicle charging stations

The Ontario government is allocating additional funding to expand the provincial charging network in small and medium-sized communities, enhancing the accessibility and convenience of charging options to get more EV drivers on the road and build confidence in drivers looking to make the switch to electric vehicles.  

The province is accepting applications for the EV ChargeON program to build publicly accessible charging stations in communities with less than 170,000 people, as well as in Indigenous communities throughout Ontario. Eligible applicants include businesses, not-for-profit corporations, municipalities, Indigenous businesses, organizations and communities and broader public sector organizations like hospitals and universities. Meet Invest WindsorEssex’s Automobility and Innovation Centre’s Cybersecurity Analyst/ Threat Specialist, Deepan Dhingra

Deepan Dhingra is an Automotive Cybersecurity Analyst at Invest WindsorEssex, where his primary focus lies in the realm of automotive cybersecurity. Specifically, he excels in conducting detailed Threat Analysis and Risk Assessment for the complex electrical and electronic components within vehicles. 

Beyond his role at Invest WindsorEssex, Deepan is a valuable asset to SHIELD, the renowned Automotive Cybersecurity Center of Excellence. Within this organization, his expertise is channeled into performing Automotive Penetration Tests on various vehicle components, enhancing the resilience of automotive systems against potential cyber threats. He also plays a crucial role in ASRG (Automotive Security Research Group), actively participating in the development of the Automotive Security Intelligence Platform and the Automotive Threat and Controls Catalogue. These resources are essential for organizations seeking comprehensive risk assessments in the automotive cybersecurity domain. 

Deepan is well-versed in ISO 21434, a critical standard in the automotive cybersecurity landscape. His proficiency in this area has established him as an indispensable figure within the industry.
