As CEO of the Invest WindsorEssex, you’ll be one of the community’s most passionate ambassadors. Invest WindsorEssex is a not-for-profit supported by the City of Windsor and the County of Essex, responsible for advancing economic development to grow and sustain prosperity in the region. As the lead economic development organization in the region, Invest Windsor Essex provides confidential and expert assistance to companies and entrepreneurs in all sectors.

Working with a distinguished Board of community leaders, the CEO will drive the formulation and implementation of a comprehensive roadmap for economic development across the region, with emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion (EDI). This includes developing and executing strategic plans that leverage ongoing economic development initiatives while prioritizing initiatives that ensure equitable access to opportunities for all members of the community. In a globally competitive, knowledge-based economy, you will position the region as a preferred destination with a diverse workforce and a forward-thinking growth agenda. Act as a principal relationship developer with businesses, public institutions and other key stakeholders in the region. Set priorities, create performance metrics, leverage and allocate resources and promote continuous learning with your team. Support even greater consolidated efforts in business retention, small business start-ups and overall economic growth for the region. Essential to the CEO’s mandate is ensuring a collaborative and inclusive environment within Invest WindsorEssex and across the broader community.

An accomplished leader, you are adept at working with Boards, government representatives, corporate decision-makers and community leaders. A compelling speaker and presenter, you have likely built your economic development credentials with a large municipality, government agency, Board of Trade or in a marketing-driven organization. Leveraging superior communication skills, you model excellence, respect, and trust. You champion diversity, equity, and inclusion while establishing strong relationships with diverse stakeholder communities, and thrive in complex, changing environments. Permanent Full-time | Salary Range $75,000 to $85,000 plus benefits

Invest WindsorEssex is seeking a dynamic and resourceful Senior Economic Development Officer to join our team. This role focuses on identifying and securing funding opportunities for businesses in Windsor-Essex across various sectors including Agriculture, Advanced Manufacturing, Healthcare, Automotive, Technology, Pharmaceutical, ITC, and Startups. The ideal candidate will work with Federal, Provincial, and Municipal government incentives. Invest WindsorEssex is the lead not-for-profit economic development corporation responsible for advancing economic development to grow and sustain prosperity in the Windsor-Essex region that includes the City of Windsor, the Towns of Amherstburg, Essex, Kingsville, Lakeshore, LaSalle, Leamington, Tecumseh and the Township of Pelee. The focus of the organization is to develop and execute strategies to retain, expand, attract and help new businesses start up in the Windsor-Essex area.

Core Responsibilities 

  • Create and maintain an up-to-date repository of current grants and government credits available for businesses in the specified sectors
  • Establish and nurture relationships with businesses in the Windsor-Essex region
  • Understand the unique needs of each business to match them with appropriate grant opportunities
  • Write and edit grant proposals for Windsor-Essex businesses, ensuring they align with the funding organization’s guidelines and criteria
  • Review and provide feedback on grant proposals prepared by businesses to enhance their success rate
  • Assist businesses in developing and submitting grant applications to secure funding
  • Develop and implement strategies to maximize grant funding for businesses
  • Advise businesses on long-term funding strategies and potential funding sources
  • Monitor progress of grant applications and ensure timely submission of all required documents
  • Prepare and submit regular reports on grant activity, success rates and other relevant metrics
  • Organize and conduct workshops for businesses on how to run grant-funded programs and comply with reporting requirements
  • Engage with government agencies, non-profits, and other stakeholders to stay informed about new funding opportunities and changes in grant policies
  • Represent the organization at relevant industry events, meetings, and conferences
  • Maintain a detailed database of grant opportunities, application deadlines, and funding criteria
  • Align grant opportunities with the organization’s strategic goals
  • Collaborate on cross-departmental projects to support overall business growth and development initiatives

Educational/Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Business, or related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in grant tracking and writing
  • Proven experience in grant management within specified sectors
  • Strong understanding of government funding programs and credits
  • Excellent relationship-building and communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency in research and data management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of grant regulations and compliance requirements
