Thinking of moving to the Windsor-Essex region? Welcome! Our area has a number of support organizations and dedicated resources that help to make your transition smooth and easy.

Our organization offers support to foreign investors locating to the region and assists with navigating the resources available.

Newcomers to Windsor-Essex

Welcome to Windsor-Essex ensures that newcomers and potential newcomers to our region have the best understanding possible of what our area has available to them. Launched by Workforce WindsorEssex, the County of Essex and the Windsor Essex Local Immigration Partnership, this resource provides access to information and services available from newcomer service providers, private sector businesses and government.

The Multicultural Council of Windsor and Essex County offers settlement services, English language classes, a Community Connections Program and several other services for newcomers to the Windsor-Essex region.

Immigration supports

The Province of Ontario outlines everything you need to know about moving to and settling in Ontario, if you are an immigrant and new to the province. The Province provides information on pre-arrival services, settlement agencies, housing options, school and language information, healthcare, childcare, transportation and more.

The Government of Canada also provides services and information on express entry, start-up Visas, caregivers, family sponsorships, self-employment, fraud protection and more.

Working as a newcomer

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) nominates foreign workers, entrepreneurs and international students to the Government of Canada for permanent residence in Ontario. Supports are available for Ontario businesses interested in recruiting international talent through the OINP.

You can also discover more information on doing business in Canada as a newcomer.

Moving from the United States

If you are an American wishing to immigrate, visit, study or work temporarily in Canada, the Consulate General of Canada in Detroit can help you learn more about Visas and immigration.

Finding a home

Windsor-Essex is home to many affordable housing options, whether you're looking to purchase, rent or lease a space to live. Discover our area's housing rates in comparison to other large, urban centres across the province.

Find a local realtor or search for homes with the Windsor-Essex County Association of Realtors. They can provide expert, in-depth advice and consultations on the best fit for your housing needs. You can also find useful resources, such as real estate terminology, a school locator, mortgage calculator and more.
