A new intercity bus service will be launched in Windsor on Thursday.

FlixBus, a European based long distance passenger bus service, has been quickly expanding in recent years across North America.

The company starting Thursday will introduce a new line that will link the Windsor-Toronto-Ottawa corridor. A separate connection that will link the Kitchener-Hamilton-Niagara Falls is also being rolled out.

The passenger bus service will operate in Windsor six days per week out of the downtown with pickup and drop off of passengers at 181 Goyeau St. near the intersection of Chatham Street East. Buses will generally depart Windsor in the morning and include connections to London, Hamilton, Toronto, Scarborough and Ottawa.

Windsor is one of the last major cities in Ontario to be connected to FlixBus, the company said.

The new FlixBus lines will be run by Skyway Coach Lines and Gallexy Tours — both based out of Toronto which have partnered with the company. Buses will includes services such as free on-board Wi-Fi.

Tickets are now available online at FlixBus.com, FlixBus.ca and on the FlixBus app, according to the company which also can be followed on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Options for intercity bus travel arriving and departing Windsor have been limited since Greyhound Canada announced over a year ago it was permanently shutting down all of its remaining bus routes in Canada after a year of suspended service because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
